not receiving sms unless i send one?

Hi,
I've been having this recurring issue where my girlfriend tries to text me. i do not receive anything at all (not delayed).
i know she's been texting me because when i turn on data. she messages me over facebook to ask me if i received her text. i tell her to send it again. nothing.
i then text her and ask her to send me back the text. and i finally receive something.
Phone: Asus ROG Phone
App: default messaging app.
i've tried restarting phone or turning off data to not avail. this issue is starting to tick me off. because as it goes. i have no idea how many sms i've been missing from all my other contacts
