Using Fizz mobile for home internet
I just moved and decided to try to use Fizz mobile for my home Internet. I don’t do any kind of streaming, and so far (after 15 days) it is working great. (Fizz landline Internet is not available for Ontario.)
I love the flexibility of Fizz plans here. I removed talk and text from the plan, so I only have a 50GB data plan for $25. That is cheaper than any cable Internet provider is offering. (Using the Fizz EB Games starter pack basically saved enough money to cover the cost of buying a cellular router.)
Of course, landline Internet would be both faster and has unlimited data. But so far it looks like I will only be using 15GB per month with my typical usage patterns. So neither the speed nor the limited amount of downloads is a concern for me, and I am going to love Fizz’s unique data rollover!
I am running three computers – connected full time – over this cell connection, using a KuWfi CA-CPF906 4G LTE Wireless Router. It is a fairly basic router, but it seems to have all the features I could possibly need. The only ‘difficult’ thing I had to configure was to punch in the APN (mobile.bm) network setting. It took a minute or two for that to register, and since then I have had a solid connection status. This router has a useful display screen indicating connection status, # of connected wireless and wired computers, and best of all it displays how much data has been downloaded and uploaded over the past month! I’m very happy with this $90 router.
The only ‘problem’ I had with the router so far is that it does not give out DHCP address over the single LAN Ethernet port. That just forced me to assign a static IP address for my server. This router also is only 4G (because the 5G models were exponentially more expensive). 4G is plenty fast for me.
I am used to running with low data requirements because prior to this I was on a shared satellite network. So all my machines are already configured for minimal network chatting. I also live very close to the public library, so I can easily offload massive downloads if necessary.
Is anyone else using Fizz mobile for their home Internet?
