Family plans - Multiple lines in one account, or separate accounts each?

Is there a benefit to having my family's lines all in one account, or is it better to have them with their own accounts?

It seems like separate is better because they will get the referral bonus (but adding lines to my account won't) and I can gift them data. Or is there a bonus for adding lines and a way to pool or gift data to other lines inside one account?

I have two phone lines and home Internet on my account, so lost out on the referral bonus for the second line.

However, by having the accounts together, I'm accumulating points faster and can spread the rewards between my phone lines. I'm currently at level 4, and have a 500 mb bonus and $1 off on one line, and 2 of the 250 mb bonuses on the other. The faster progression has also helped me to be saving more on my Internet, sooner.

It's also handy to have everything in one spot for managing usage and account features (e.g. they each have their own wallet). You can have a larger data bucket on one of the lines, and 1 or 2 GB on the others (depending on your province) and then share data to the secondary lines as needed. This is also possible as completely separate accounts, but easier to manage and see which line(s) may need more if they're all under the same account.

I forgot to mention that as you may have noticed, to get a referral credit, the new account needs to have a minimum amount of at least $20. Depending on anticipated usage, the secondary plans may or may not meet this threshold.

The amount of referral credit in your province may also be a consideration. I'm in Quebec which has the $25 referral credit, but if I were in another province with a $40 referral, I might be more likely to consider setting them up separately.

With multiple accounts you will get referrals and each account will have his own Perks

You can also separate the accounts for the referral bonus, then provide a main account management rights to each of the plans, so you can then track them, gift and such from a single account. Of course you would still need to keep each account active if you do this.

I agree 100% with the pros and cons outlined in this post. In short, you lose out on referral bonuses but it is easier to manage and you can move things around when you are all under one account.

Please note, Fizz don't offer to transfer plans between accounts. So, if say, your children grow up and want to manage their plan themselves, you would have to get a new Fizz plan for them at the time, at whatever price levels are available then.

Oh, so you can share data between your lines on one account? You only have one referral code, so it's not through the gifting, right? Is there just an option to move data around between them? I probably don't see this option because I only have one line.

Yes, you can. And it is done through data gifting. You just have to say "I know the person" on the first page when attempting to send a data gift. You will then be able to enter the destination phone number, including other phone numbers in your own account.

Hi, what you need to know is that Fizz does not allow you to later transfer a Fizz number to another Fizz account. So if it's for children, it's better to plan ahead and give each of them an account that they can manage themselves when the time comes. Fewer problems as well in case of separation..

So I recommend one account each.

That's a really good point. Right now my lines are all over the place (1 telus from work, 2 koodo, 1 freedom, 1 fizz). If I bring us all over to fizz eventually it should be in a way that the kids can have their account already separate.

Ok, cool. Yeah I've only gifted using referral codes to people in the forums for far.
