Is it better to buy a SIM card or e-SIM in the country of destination or pay additional costs to use Fizz service abroad?

Thank you in advance 🙏

The cheapest way to use data while traveling with Fizz is to purchase Fizz Travel Add-ons, which offer fixed-price data packages starting at low rates (e.g., $4/GB in some regions) that last until the end of your next payment cycle.

Alternatively, adjust your plan to include Canada+USA coverage for only $1 more per month if traveling to the US.

Cheapest Data Options with Fizz:Travel Add-ons ($4+): Buy specific data blocks. These are best because they are valid for the current and next payment cycle.

Change Coverage Area: For US travel, changing your monthly plan to "Canada + USA" in your account is often the most economical option.

Local Data-Only eSIM: If your phone supports it, using a third-party eSIM provider for data while keeping your physical SIM for texts (using WiFi) can sometimes be cheaper than roaming.

Add Funds to Wallet: For short trips, you can add funds to your wallet for pay-as-you-go data.

Check your Fizz account perks! Fizz had a Black Friday campaign over several weeks and I still have 25 more days on the "1 GB of data usable in multiple countries" that Fizz distributed in early December. It's only 1 GB but it certainly comes in clutch sometimes and can tide you over when you first land.

While you can add a Travel Add-On or funds to your wallet as @BeakBird suggested - in my experience, purchasing an eSIM from a travel eSIM provider for your country of destination proves to be the cheapest option. You don't necessarily have to wait until you arrive there as you can buy it in advance and activate it from your email when you're there (using the airport wifi).

For my trip to Japan, my friends and I used MobiMatter (https://mobimatter.com/?referrerId=C.LAI33687). 25 GB for $19.99 and good for 30 days in China, Japan, and Korea. They do get cheaper as you buy more GB but I just didn't need a lot. Quick and prompt customer service as well when I accidentally bought an eSIM I didn't need. If you use the code C.LAI33687, you can get up to $5 in cashback as well.
