How can I know where or when is Fizz planning to expand their 5g network?

So I just upgraded toward 5G and I just realize that the exact location I wanted to be able to use it is not yet on the 5g network, of course I still got LTE but how can I know if they will ever upgrade my spot ? Can I ask somewhere ? Or should I just downgrade my plan since I am probably paying for something I can't use ? Will it takes year or month ? What are my option ?

Hi, Other than the coverage map online, there isn't any info on that, they might announce it sometime in the future but there isn't any way of knowing currently.
The good news are your phone will be automatically subscribed to 4G where there isn't any 5G available, provided you haven't disabled that in network settings.

I don't think you can know ahead of time.
I assume Fizz will upgrade areas that have a lot of subscribers first (eg. outward from big cities).
Fizz high data plans (for provincial-only coverage) tend to be cheaper than competitors but if you need 5g coverage them competitors have better 5g coverage (Fizz LTE coverage is as good as anyone).
I'm in a 4g area (near Peterborough) and I expect it to be years before it is upgraded.

    Good morning @GrenadineSucrée

Previous answers from Fizz in the summer of 2025 tell us that the only way we will know about 5G service is when it is noted on the Fizz websites, like the coverage map like @Use_code_VGTIB mentioned.

As a side note, 5G does not guarantee faster speeds than 4G. In very specific uses, such as gaming, it will outperform 4G due to latency though. For the foreseeable future, carriers will broadcast 4G and 5G at the same time in the same areas. 4G penetrates buildings better than 5G, so if you are in a building you could very well connect to a 4G network even though 5G is also available.

    Cheers,
    Brad

As others have mentioned, there is no way to know in advance for your specific area. For now you may be best to take whatever plan size meets your needs and keep an eye on Fizz's coverage maps.

Vidéotron, which is the parent company for Fizz, recently announced they had expanded their partnership with Samsung to expand their 4G and 5G networks, so fingers crossed 5G services and Fizz-native services in general will soon become more widely available.

    Hello!
Personally, I wouldn't focus on 4G vs. 5G, but rather on your actual data needs. As someone else mentioned, the speed difference isn't that significant. Simply choose a plan with the number of gigabytes you actually need.

I hope you don't mind waiting.
Even competitors low data plans are 4g.

Some competitors allow you access to their 5G network though even if you have a "4G plan" and they throttle your speed down to "4G speeds". But you still benefit from the extra capacity of the 5G cell.
