Travel Add-On and Call Forwarding
-Buy my travel Fizz add-on before I leave
-Make an inconditional transfer to my Fongo number before I leave (airport). My Fizz plan has unlimited calling... There's no fee for call forwarding, right??
-Data roaming should remain ON during my trip
This should allow me to receive text messages via Fizz, receive and make calls via Fongo and even send text messages via Google Messages with my data plan.
-Cancel call forwarding when I return
Am I right? If not, please let me know. Thanks!

Looks like a sound plan to me. No fees for call forwarding when you have unlimited calling.
As Fizz does not offer voice minutes in Martinique, this is a good option to retain voice capability.
BTW, Fizz does offer outgoing text messaging in Martinique for just a couple of bucks. That maybe a better option for texting as text messages would then still be sent from your regular phone number and no need to have an account with yet another 3rd party service.

Please note: it is impossible to forward a call when you are roaming outside Canada or the United States
IMPORTANT: Charges may apply to calls that are forwarded to a number outside the coverage area of your plan.

This is almost exactly what I did several months ago when I was in Europe.
Instead of buying travel add-ons, I put some money to my Fizz wallet and bought a local SIM card. It was cheaper than travel add-ons for my data usage. Additionally if you call from your Canadian number to local numbers it will be considered as a scam by many people.
PS. Fizz wallet is available in Quebec and Ontario for now.

BradHe is forwarding his calls to a Canadian VoIP phone number. In this case it's not "considered" as roaming. For a VoIP number you just need data.

Brad's warning is actually warranted, I did not consider that in my original post. The OP mentioned they have unlimited calling in their plan, however, they never mentioned if their plan has province- or nationwide coverage. A Fizz plan with only province-wide coverage may not work free of charge when it comes to forwarding to a 3rd party number. The 3rd party number would have to be from the same province as the Fizz plan if the Fizz plan only has province-wide coverage. Otherwise, you start paying money for the call forward by the minute. If the Fizz plan has nationwide coverage, then no such issue.

Yes, local ESIM is better.No, it depends on the application and the call and data volume you expect to use while abroad. Fizz has some decent travel options now for many countries. Unless you expect heavy usage, or have repeating trips to the same destination, it is definitely worth a look.
Plus, we all have your perks section full of free or discounted travel add-ons right now, do we not?
