local number
So my dad got Fizz mobile and was assigned a 683 area code number.
It is not a local call from his 705 land line.
I think 683 is north Peterborough and he lives south of Peterborough.
I use my cell phone exclusively so area codes don't matter to me but he seems to care.
He's probably leaving Fizz.
I would suggest Fizz gets more area codes but I object to there being any area codes at all. :-)

If I understand correctly, he pays additional charges for long distance.People that call his number pay long distance.
He talked to Fizz and they don't have any local numbers so he left Fizz.1 -
He may try to get the "right" area code from another carrier and then port the number to Fizz. But there is no guarantee that this will work.
Also, 683 is an overlay for 705, i.e. it covers the same geographical area. As such, there should be no long distance charges from the landline. If there actually are, the landline carrier is doing something wrong.

Maybe that area code number run out. Just refresh the page to see if you could get the area code number you want.
