Wow, looks like they only want full price paying customers now. Just like all the other carriers. All the flexibility that made Fizz great is de-facto gone.
Outside of Québec that is.
Curious to see if this works out. Price parity with the other carriers while not offering access to 5G.

Seems like they're targeting users that have data only plans.
Province only coverage was $6 and if you locked in a plan with data only at 1GB for $0, you would be getting a crazy deal. Add on top of that 2 $1 rebates + 500mb/1GB upgrades and you're looking at a low cost 2GB/mo for $4 data only plan.

Seems like they're targeting users that have data only plans.
That as well as province-only plans.
It's pretty obvious what they have done. If I compare this to prices from January when I initially joined, and they did this in two steps, this was step 2, the combined price for unlimited talk&text went from $9 to $4 and the differences in price province vs. Canada-wide vs. Canada+US coverage went from $3 to $1, while on the other end, the price for province-wide coverage went from $5 to $11.
So, if you have a standard usage profile, what you could get from all the other carriers just as well, full talk&text service nationwide with either no or very little data, or full service with lots data, you don't notice much of a difference. For such plans, the dollars just shifted from one bucket to the next.
However, any plans that used to make Fizz unique and helped save customers with non-standard usage profiles some bucks, they are practically gone now. I mean, who will limit themselves to province-only, if all they save is one dollar. And talk&text is also hard to implement elsewhere for less than $4 if you have at least some usage.
Overall, if this doesn't lose them any customers, it's smart for Fizz, I guess. However, it's bad for the market as it has lost its only player that was "different", so it will now go on producing the one and the same thing over and over again like it always has.
