New, sealed cell phone is blocked. Purchased on a marketplace. The seller has disappeared.

Hello everyone. I have a huge problem and I hope someone can help me. I bought a new, sealed cell phone from the marketplace. Motorola Razr Plus 2024. I checked, it's not blacklisted, so it's not stolen, and the warranty is valid until November 2025. I put in the Fizz SIM card, and I start unlocking the phone. I choose the language, keyboard and screen mode, and enter a password, which I skip. Despite several reinstallations, I always get the message: Phone blocked, please contact... Motorola customer service phone number. I only have access to the keypad to enter an emergency number. No password is required to unlock. In short, Motorola says the warranty doesn't cover lockouts. They can't do anything. The seller only answered me once. He told me he had a company and they were selling cell phones for his employees because the company was closed. Older models that he upgraded. Says the other cell phones he sold work fine. Hasn't answered me since 😭

I'm sorry to hear about your situation with the Motorola Razr Plus 2024.

Based on your description, it seems the phone is subject to a carrier lock or enterprise device management lock, which restricts its use to specific carriers or organizations.

This phone was for a market different from Canada? Check if you find a model number to understand for which market it was

I'd suggest taking the device to a technician that can write a new firmware to the phone's ROM.
If the bootloader is locked, it might not be possible but they should be able to check and tell you if that is the case.

unless of course they'll eventually allow you to just return it, which is probably less of a hassle.

    Thank you for your answer

Motorola refuses return because it has no warranty-covered issues.

Sorry but I don't think there's anything we can do.

For this kind of thing I wouldn't take anywhere but a company with a storefront or renowned.

You should ask a mobile technician in your case.

Also make sure to leave bad feedback for the seller on whatever marketplace you bought it on.

In Canada, mobile carriers cannot sell locked phones anymore, so it's either locked by an enterprise or coming from another country. Since Motorola can't help you with that, I would either try to return it or ask a repair shop for help. Otherwise you could try to trade it in to buy a new phone, when they maximize trade in values during promotions. However, make sure they seller doesn't have any specific restriction that would prevent you from doing it.
