Hi,

I have been using Fizz Home Internet for a while now and overall…, I am pretty happy with the service. However.., I have noticed some occasional slowdowns.., especially when streaming or gaming during peak hours. I want to ensure I am making the most of my plan and optimize my connection.

Here are a few steps I have tried so far:

  • Restarting my modem and router regularly.
  • Making sure my devices are updated and free of unnecessary background apps.
  • Placing the router in a central spot in my home for better Wi-Fi coverage.

Even with these steps, I still get lag at times. Does anyone have additional tips to boost speed or reduce buffering: ?? Also…, would upgrading my router make a big difference, or is Fizz’s provided modem/router combo enough: ??

I would love to hear your experiences or advice. Let’s help each other get the best out of our Fizz internet !!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions !!

With Regards,

Daniel

Hi, I highly encourage you to have your own router. Also, yes, unplugging your modem from time to time it helps.

Check if you have the same kind of slowdown in Ethernet as in WiFi because maybe if you split the bands of the Fizz modem it could help but having your own router is normally better.

With the Fizz app you can diagnose your connection. Look here for download this:

Discover our smart Wi-Fi modem and app | Fizz

What are the Wi-Fi technologies used at Fizz? | Fizz

    Try this:

Open the Fizz Wi-Fi app in Overview and press the three dots (…) in the upper right corner to access the application menu.

Select "More", "Fizz support" and Tap "Tools and support".

Follow the instructions and grant all permissions until you reach the feature page, at which point you should click on Network Scan.

Allow average 2 minute to scan complete. Do nothing before the end.

Check what it has to say and if you still have issues, contact customer service for further investigations : https://fizz.ca/en/support

    Hi @danieljose

I am using the Fizz modem without any issue, my only suggestion is to buy a good router, and use the Fizz modem in bridge mode, to do so here the guide

    https://fizz.ca/en/faq/how-can-i-use-my-own-wi-fi-router-fizz

Using your own router (I am using an ASUS router) provides good Wi-Fi coverage (Fizz's modem had Wi-Fi that only covered half of my residence). It also offers many more options to control your internet, such as usage monitoring, VPN setup, blocking, parental controls, and more. I don’t need to reboot my modem—everything works reliably.

Positioning the router away from obstacles like walls, floors, and ceilings is the first step. It should also be placed away from sources of interference, such as microwaves, and ideally at the center of the area of use (which is not always the center of the residence).

unplugging the modem always works for me. Of course, unless there’s something else. But I’ve been fairly satisfied with the speed.
