Yes that's would be awesome! To pay realy what we use!

Yes haha I'm curious to see what statellite phone plan will bring to canada phone plan prices!
1 -
Yeah exactly, not wasting anything 👌
0 -
Awesome lol
You think it'll be cheaper?
0 -
Yes! Or rollingback data for the whole year instead if 2 months that would give someone us a tonne of data haha
0 -
I dont think so but I would like to be proven wrong haha I think it might be more expensive du to their internet price. They charge 140$ for satellite internet in Canada.
0 -
Wow 140$ It's really not cheap.
1 -
Its realy nice because you can have acess to internet anywhere but its so expensive!
0 -
definitely not cheap but for some it’s the only good option
0 -
Yes, in rural area you don't have many options.
0 -
While urban areas have good internet infrastructure, many rural and remote areas still rely on outdated technologies like DSL and satellite, which offer slower speeds. The level of investment in internet infrastructure varies across the country. Some regions receive more funding and attention than others.
0 -
Lol. Distance affect.
0 -
Yes this a problem!
0 -
Hope that would be changed with technology.
0 -
Hope they can solve the problem soon.

Canada ranks 16th globally in internet speed due to a combination of factors: limited competition among internet service providers, vast geographic size and low population density, which make infrastructure deployment challenging, and reliance on older technologies in some areas. These factors slow down the overall speed compared to countries with more dense populations or more competitive markets.
1 -
You can't compare yourself, we're different from every point of view.
0 -
Very good point.

Totally agree! It's kind of wild how much of a difference there is between urban and rural areas when it comes to internet. Urban areas are cruising with fast speeds, while some rural spots are stuck with DSL or satellite, which is like trying to stream a movie with a potato. 😅 The investment gap is real, too – some areas get all the upgrades, while others are left in the dust!

because of coverage. canada is very large

Hope have AI innovation also.

I bet it'll get better now with fiber cable and 5G in most urban areas

I am happy to have 940 mbps from FIZZ. ☺️

Comparing with the internet speed when I traveled in East Asian countries, Canadian internet speed is really slow
0 -
Maybe because it's too expensive in Canada, unfortunately.
0 -
I think it might have to do with the small population density compared to the huge available geography.

Why is Canada no.16 in the world at Internet speed?Different lists and indexes use different methodologies. Some rankings show Canada around 15–16th place globally for median download speed based on recent Speedtest data (e.g., ~146 Mbps) — better than many countries but still behind several European and Asian countries with higher averages.
📊 2. Canada is large with regional differences
Canada’s size and population distribution make it harder to deliver uniformly high speeds everywhere. Urban centers (like Toronto or Vancouver) typically have very fast speeds, but rural and northern areas often lag behind. That lowers the national average compared with smaller, densely populated countries.
📈 3. Progress is real, but still uneven
The Canadian government and telecom providers have been investing heavily in broadband expansion, and access to high-speed Internet has improved a lot in recent years. Coverage for speeds of at least 50 Mbps/10 Mbps is nearing 96 % of households.
However, those improvements take time to move the average ranking upward, especially when rural areas still have slower connections.💸 4. Other factors matter too
Some global rankings take into account not just raw speed, but also things like:
cost of service
infrastructure quality
reliability
When these broader factors are considered, Canada’s overall digital ranking can be lower even if speeds are relatively high.📌 Bottom line
Canada’s “#16 in the world” ranking is not because the Internet is bad — in fact, average speeds are quite high compared with many nations. But due to regional speed variation, measurement methods, and comparison with countries that have extremely fast networks, Canada ends up around that position in speed listings.

Yes but you have to be careful because AI is often partially wrong or incomplete.
It still needs to evolve.

I completely agree with you, we must be careful.

but 16 is not that bad when you know there are over 100 countries lol

I would've assumed we'd be even higher. The internet here is definitely better than in my home country (Egypt)
