Upgrading to VoLTE compatible sim card. Deadline?
Hi there,
Does anyone know when the 3G network is being shutdown? I have to order a volte compatible SIM card (free, thank you Fizz) , and I was wondering what the deadline to upgrade it was?
Thanks

Videotron already warned their customer in May 2021 that it will shutdown 3G soon with no specific date.
According to Northerbi.com : "The listed dates are being rumoured in the market for 3 majors carriers is December 2025" ( https://northernbi.com/3g-sunset-update-for-us-and-canadian-network-carriers/ )
Rogers already initiated their process of shuting down its 3G network in June 2021 ( https://www.rogers.com/customer/support/article/business-network-updates )
This would give you an idea of when it would happen.

In Canada at the moment, with don't have any information
However, in the USA they started and to make calls you will need a VoLTE SIM

Hello,
I guess the 3g will still be used for a while...
The 3G network used for calls on the other hand is set to disappear in the near future... Source:👇

Correction : Rogers already initiated their process of shuting down 1900 MHz on their 2G and 3G networks

Providers need to "certify" more phone models to be compatible with VoLTE first, before shutting down 3G 🤣.

Agree... To many uncertified phones running loose out there 🤣

Why should they? If they can just tell you that it's not compatible and have you buy a brand new phone from them 🤫😡
