You should just aim to a level that corresponds to the rewards you want and put as much effort as you can to get there. Once you are there if you want to keep leveling up, do the once again.

What's the point of paying for unlimited texts and calls when you can do that for free through data? I only pay for calls sometimes when I need to contact official services. And occasionally need send a text to tell people to use whatsapp..

Lot of people don't use whatsapp, so you either download every existing message app to be able to text everyone otherwise you are still stuck with sms. A lot of people actually don't use any message app and prefer using sms. I find myself calling offices and institutions too many times to give up unlimited calls...
