Texts received and sent while in airplane mode
Hi, I'm in southern USA, Pixel phone in airplane mode as I have Wi-Fi, use Skype and didn't buy a travel plan. Yesterday I received and was able to reply to a series of texts from someone in Ottawa. I panicked for a sec until confirming airplane mode was still on. Any idea why this happened? Curious, not concerned.

Hello @Super, to the best of my knowledge, Fizz Mobile does not support WIFI calling and texting to/from the Fizz mobile phone number. Are the texts to/from your Fizz mobile phone number or through an app not connected to your phone number? I'm not aware if the Pixel has special powers that bypass airplane mode and a foreign provider without travel add-on. Curious indeed. Perhaps check your account to check if your plan is Canada + USA or there was recently a major service issue with using Fizz Mobile in the US, people had the Canada + USA coverage or had purchased an add-on but experienced service/connection issues while in the US, perhaps Fizz made some adjustments to offer free coverage, as compensation.

I suggest you to contact Fizz’s support team directly to inquire about that issue, they will be able to do some further investigation to correct this situation as well as provide you precise answers. You can do it by opening the following link: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/status-services and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, than click on it to start your chat session with the customer service.
If the chat bubble still does not appear at the bottom of the page, on the right, after a few seconds, the number of pending sessions is higher than the service’s processing capacity. At that time, you can leave a message on the other proposed communication channels:

Not a big issue, I'd just didn't expect to receive any texts when in airplane mode. Chat doesn't open a window and I don't have any form of social media or Whatsapp.

Occasionally when the Chat is unavailable, wait a few moments and then try again to finally have access to the Chat then. Also, sometimes it is easier to access through the French version of Fizz’s siteweb.

Tried both the French and English link over the last hours, neither opens a chat box. Good thing it's not a serious issue, I'd be disappointed trying to get someone!

Thank you. I put my phone in airplane mode the minute I left Toronto and as always in the past (with Fizz and Telus) using Android phones, I expected to never be able to send or receive text messages. Thus my surprise when for a short period a couple days ago I received texts from a friend in Ottawa. I immediately successfully responded to their text. No idea what type of phone they are using or on which carrier. I tried sending a text directly after and met with the expected "not sent, try to tap again" message. My plan is Canada only. Btw, I love the service and Fizz coverage...we traveled extensively last year from BC to PEI and never had any coverage issues, unlike my wife who is still (for now) with Koodo.
