Does "pay as you go" really work?

Dear community, I've done a lot of research on the fizz-website and in the discussions, but haven't quite found an answer to my question: does "pay as you go" really work when you travel in an area that isn't included in your monthly plan? I've tried it once in another province of Canada that wasn't included in my monthly plan and as soon as I've crossed the border and the phone changed network, my internet didn't work anymore.

Since I will travel again very soon, this time to the United States, I didn't want to face the fact of not having internet again. I already have money in my fizz-wallet from my last travel, roaming will be on. I've already tried to add "pay as you go" for the United States to my plan, but the website always just sends me in circles.

Did I miss a step in the process which is why it didn't work for my last trip? Should I turn off the phone after crossing the border and then switch it on again? Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi

When traveling outside of the Fizz subscription area, you must enable roaming on your phone (as you did) and make sure your phone is compatible with the local networks. On your phone settings, enable automatic network selection. If mobile data isn't working at first, you can try restarting your phone or turning on airplane mode, then back off. If it still doesn't work, confirm via your Fizz account that you have purchased the proper add-on or that you have funds remaining in your wallet.

And if the problem persists, you can always chat with Fizz customer service for help.

Do know that if you plan on using a good amount of mobile data, the pay-as-you-go rates are considerably more expensive than buying travel add-ons or having the USA/Canada plan coverage.

To use Pay As You go for data, calls, text and international calls for roaming outside your coverage zone:
    1. Go to My Plans in your Fizz account.
    2. If you have more than one plan, scroll to the plan you wish to modify.
    3. Click the Manage button.
    4. This will open the Manage interface. Click on Travel.
    5. Enter the name of the main country you will be travelling to (If you’re visiting more than one country, tell us where you will be spending the most time.)
    6. On the next screen, select Pay As You Go.
    7. You will see different Pay As You Go rates for your Zone.
    8. Click Add Money to My Wallet (if you need to add funds to your Wallet). This will take you into the Pay As You Go interface to add more funds to your Wallet.
