Hi! Bell is inviting my condo syndicate to have them install fiber optic technology in order to update our current network infrastructure...which is cable. If my condo syndicate vote for this change but I decide to stay with Fizz, will is this fiber optic technology be compatible with Fizz internet?

Basically, can I stlll use Fizz internet via fiber optic or I'll need to switch to Bell?

    Hello @NeedInfo

Usually they add another technology to the building's communication panel.

I don't think a syndicate can legally force a technology to its units. So you should be good. Nevertheless check with your syndicate to make sure they add and not replace.

The other explanation, but I'm not a network engineer, is that the FO reaches the building's switchboard to witch your unit remains connected in coaxial. A lot of internet is on FO nowadays. Only the "last mile" counts for your modem.

Fizz' modem only works with coaxial cable.

If they don’t touch the coax cable infrastructure, you can stay with fizz. But if they rip it off while installing the fibre, then you won’t have choice to switch to Bell.

  • Hello @NeedInfo, Fizz Internet uses coax and is not compatible with fiber optic. I suggest you talk with your condo board to ensure that the existing coax infrastructure remains.
