Fizz Modem + Wifi Repeater. Band Steering?

Hello!

I've been using the combo of a fizz modem + a 3rd party wifi repeater. The repeater supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz and also band steering. (lately I disabled the band steering to try to solve my issue)


My wife has notice that even though her speedtest show good speed on her work laptop (+50mbps UP, +10mbps DOWN), her video calls are choppy. We use the repeater with our smart TV too and it has zero issues.


My question is: to achieve better results, should I disable band steering in the Fizz modem and connect the repeater to only one of the 2 "main" bands?

    Yes, it may help if you disable sterring I band steering in the Fizz modem and connect the repeater to only one of the 2 "main" bands. Manually changing the channels used for your Wi-Fi connection can improve your modem’s signa

    I found some possible solutions in the FAQ that might be relevant for your case, which include your idea (see the fifth point in bold):

    - Take note of the various sources of attenuation of your Wi-Fi signal

    - Restart your Wi-Fi modem

    - Consider adjusting your Fizz Home Internet plan to better meet your needs

    - Test each of the two (2) frequency bands of your Wi-Fi modem

    - Try manually selecting different Wi-Fi channels on your modem

    Manually changing the channels used for your Wi-Fi connection can improve your modem’s signal.

    - Temporarily turn off all other devices that are using your Wi-Fi network

    - Reset your Wi-Fi modem to its factory settings
