Hello,

I think somebody is spoofing my number. I'm receiving calls from people saying they called me but I really didn't.

I don't want to change my phone number for a stupid spoofer, so anyone of you have recommandations or is there a way to find the spoofer and report it to authorities ?

Regards,

    Hi David,

caller ID spoofing is common nowadays and the scammers are now using real phone numbers. I guess that’s what happened here. We can't do much than suggest you to directly contact the customer service. You can do it by opening the following link: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/status-services and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, than click on it to start your chat session with the customer service.

You can also do it on Facebook: https://facebook.com/fizzca.

I had this happen before with a different provider. I educated the people calling me back about spoofed numbers and moved on with my life. Hopefully they only used it one day.

Well, I guess customer service will advise you to change your phone number. There is not much else they con do on their end. Should you eventually decide to change your number, you can do this entirely online.

thank you all, it is sad story because hey are currently tainting my name. It's completely illegal and this is a use of my identity that I can't let go.

Is there anything the anti-fraud from the GRC can do ? I guess not much.

    Regards,

    David

Perhaps complain to the CRTC, although I think it could be a waste of time. Finally, it’s up to you to see if it’s worth it, and here’s a link: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/plaint.htm

  • Hello @webdavidlarouche, as others have pointed out the RCMP/GRC has an anti-fraud unit and you can report it online. Unfortunately number spoofing can take place anywhere in the world so unless the spoofer(s) is/are in Canada, you are out of luck. The best action to take is to change your number and move on. There are may articles by legitimate media on number spoofing, how to reduce the probability of it happening to you.
