Hello!

I recently moved to Fizz and the service seems to be stable. however since I am using this new Hitron router, my laptop wifi loses connection every few minutes or so!

I see this log every time this glitch happens:

as I read (like here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203709), it can be fixed with decreasing the bacon rate on the wireless access point.

so can someone shed some light on how can I change the bacon rate on my router?

I am using a Thinkpad with Intel network controller. OS is Ubuntu 20.04.

Thank you,

Ali

You should disable the auto band on the modem

    1. Choose: ''My Wi-Fi''
    2. Select your Wi-Fi network
    3. Select: ''Advanced Settings''
    4. Band Steering ''On/Off''

    Or use your own router.

I've had similar issues with distance from router usually being the culprit

@Dgjf you are right about disabling the band steering, as the client quietly switches between 2.4 and 5GHz bands. but I had already disabled that and renamed my 5GHz SSID (btw, I think the default should be changed before the router being delivered to customers to avoid this issue)

But what actually fixed the issue was: manually selecting "Wireless channel"! (thanks to @vanigh for sharing the guide document). since then the connection is rock stable!

also the distance wanst the problem in my case, as the router is in the next room.

Thanks a lot for great support!

The modems provided by Fizz are not very reliable. I personally only use them in bridge mode and purchased a separate router. This way I am always getting reliable service and top speeds.
