Try the SIM in a different phone, the card is more difficult to broke if in contact with water
You can always order a new SIM for 10$ +TX and swap it

Try wiping the SIM card contacts with some rubbing alcohol.
As suggested to help narrow down the problem, you can test your SIM card on another phone.
And test with another SIM card on your repaired phone.

Oh boy! Not a good day for you... I would try to put the SIM card into another phone (after drying it of course! :P ). You will quickly see if the SIM card works.2
