Canada coverage area for occasional use only?

Hello,
I have some questions about the Canada vs. Quebec coverage options.
1) I'm activating a new account and will be calling mainly within the Quebec coverage area. However, 1 or 2 times per year I will travel within Canada outside Quebec (e.g. to Toronto). It's not worth taking the Canada coverage option every month for these few times. Is it possible to upgrade to Canada coverage for a few days only using an add-on or something similar?
2) I understand that Ottawa is considered part of the Quebec coverage area. What about the highway between Montreal and Ottawa?
3) What happens if I have the Quebec coverage option and I go outside Quebec (e.g. to Toronto) without having Canada coverage? Will my service be blocked in this case?
Thanks!

Hi Nicolae
1) Yes you can update to Canada only for a month, however, the modification must be done at least 48 hours before the next billing cycle and they will be active on the new billing cycle. Remember when you modify you plan, you will pay the current price.
Yes you can buy addon, but you need for calls, data and SMS, or you need money in the Fizz’s wallet

2) Yes Ottawa region is covered by Quebec coverage, Here you can check
https://fizz.ca/en/coverage
3) Without money in the wallet or addon you cannot use your phone, no call no data https://fizz.ca/en/faq/what-is-an-add-on-and-how-do-i-buy-one
The different with Quebec and Canada coverage is 2$, therefore, 24$ per year, it is up to you to see what it is worth for you

If there is a partipicating Couche-Tard near you, you can get a Fizz SIM card for free (until January 4 2021 while supplies last): https://fizz.ca/en/couche-tard-sim
You just need to install the Couche-Tard app, enter your email and wait until you are at the cash abd ready to pay before using the electronic coupon. The Fizz SIM card will be free!
This is also a good time to join Fizz as they are giving $50 bonus credit to new customers (until January 6 2021).
If you need a referral code, there is a list here:

You can choose mine, both parties will receive the bonus credit once you have paid your second bill.5 -
Hi Nicolae
Welcome to Fizz!
1) Yes you can change your plan each month and the change will take effect at your renewal.
https://fizz.ca/en/faq/how-do-i-change-my-mobile-plan
Or you can buy travel add-ons as per point 3 below.
As long as the majority of your usage (calls, texts and data) is done on the Fizz network (Subscription area), you will be okay to continue using Fizz mobile.
https://fizz.ca/en/faq/partner-networks
2) Please check the map. It's part of Quebec.
https://fizz.ca/en/coverage
3) You will need to buy a travel add-on (or have funds in your wallet for pay-as-you-go service).
https://fizz.ca/en/faq/im-travelling-outside-my-coverage-zone-what-are-my-roaming-options
I should add that the coverage option (Quebec, Canada or Canada/USA) you select for your mobile plan determines:
1. The area where you can use your phone service
2. And the numbers you can call. For example, if you have Quebec coverage plan with unlimited calling, you can call any number within Quebec. Calling outside of Quebec would require an add-on or funds in your wallet for pay-as-you-go service.5 -
As Mike said, the difference is only 2 dollars. You can buy and add-on but you have to buy an add on for calls, data and text, provided that you need these when you are in Toronto.
In my opinion not worth the hassle. Just upgrade the whole plan 48 hours before the next billing cycle and you are good to go5 -
Mike covered everything :-)5

Thanks to all who answered! Indeed, for a $2 per month / $24 per year difference, it's worth getting Canada coverage to avoid the hassle of addons or having to change the plan before each travel instance.5
