Upgrades last 2 years?

Hey there,
I am wondering if upgrades last 2 years after I start using them (add them to a free slot) or they last 2 years after I get them (without ever possibly using them in a free slot).
What if I use it only for a period of time and replace it with the other?

It's 2 years after you receive them. Which makes sense.

Two years after you received them.
That's why I think the best strategy is to go up slowly across those level, that way ypu will waste less bonus.

I hope they have a plan after all the upgrades have expired, otherwise they will receive an incredible amount of messages lol.

I think it would have made more sense to start counting after you start using them not receiving them.
