Can I earn points without having an active plan?

Yes you can, remember the bonus are valid 24 months from the day that you receive them

You have a jump start on earning points, but Mike has a good point any rewards your earn will only be valid for 24 months.

It's possible, but i think you can't use rewards without an actual payment plan
