Modem installation by a technician?

I initially didn’t pay for the technician to install the wifi, but I have changed my mind, can I ask him to do it when he arrives and pay then, or do I have to send a message to fizz and let them know somehow?

You are better to ask Fizz, since the technician try to avoid to come inside your house for the COVID situation
Sometime the technician ask you if you need help, but it is not a rule therefore you cannot count on that5 -

The modem installation is not too complicated. A lot of people opt for the free installation.
If you can unbox the modem and plug in 2 wires (the coaxial cable and the electrical plug), you will be fine.

It might be difficult considering the current situation with virus. Some companies agree, while others don’t. I think fizz generally accepts installation8

If you want the technician to install everything, just ask when he arrives. The charge will be added to your monthly bill later. ( or you might be lucky enough to get a technician who will be willing to help without adding the 30$ fee )4
