If it's a "clone" then it might be because it's a fake phone?8

Hi Gerry.
I don't recommend using clone, or chinese copy phone.
Cause the android os firmware is modified. The system can say Android 9.1 but in real it's an android 5 or 6. The system can say exemple 6gb of ram, 2.3ghz octo-core, 128gb space, but in real its like 512mb ram, 1.2dual core, 8gb space. Ive been missing with many clone and chinese clone. The phone could be only 4g or 3g.
The best thing to do in your case if you have a cheap budget is to buy a prepaid phone in grocery or pharmacy. Now prepaid phone cames unlocked.
Have a nice day9 -
Thank you for the replies especially for the APN settings. I was going to snd a picture of the settings pages but Supreme Geek has shown most of them. I will try them out. The phone is supposed to be capable of LTE Band 4 at multiple frequencies.5

Mathieu was right about the Android version. I ran a number of System Information Apps and they all came back with the same version - Lollipop 5.1, i don't know why they would not use the latest Android version. With all the right settings and WiFi off, I don't get data of any kind - email nor SMS. I'll just go back to my old phone which was pretty good - an LG G65

With an iPhone, you don't worry about APN network setting or anything else setting :P3
