phone does not reconize sim card?

I am using someone else's de activated sim card because they gave it me but my phone does not recognize it. what do I do?

    it's normal, if there is de activated !!!

    What exactly does your phone say?  Does it say the SIM is not recognized or cannot register on network or other message?

     

    Any disactivated SIM will not provide service with the carrier. You will need to activate it with an active plan with Fizz

    It seems that your phone is SIM locked, but you need to activate the card too

    The phone might be locked from it s carrier.
    Is it iPhone or android phone?
