Saved/read text messages are automatically deleted?

My old/read text messages are automatically disappearing/being deleted. I haven't deleted them by accident. if Is there anyway I can I retrieve them without the additional app being added to my phone. Is anyone else having the same issue and if so what is the workaround?

There is something called *Recuperation Of Android data* that exist, I don’t know any other way.
Also verify if you are on POP or IMAP in your protocol.

First time I've heard of such a thing for text messages.
Normally you can do that with emails only.

Try a new SMS app, I suggest using the Messages app from Google. Look for it on the play store.

If you have an iphone
Open Settings > Messages.
Scroll down to the section labelled MESSAGE HISTORY.
Tap Keep Messages.
Choose either 30 days or 1 Year. This will delete messages older than one month or one year.

I concur on the idea of using a different messaging app, like facebook messenger or Messages for android.

I doubt anyone else is having this issue because it sounds like it is your phone that is the problem. The cell phone provider will deliver the message to you, but it cannot delete it.
