How hard/easy is the manual installation?

How hard/easy is it to setup the modem and settings. Is it worth hiring the technician to do it for you? I've never done this before.

It's very easy. If you have already setup a router then you should be able to do this.

It's easy. You just have to plug it and follow the instructions. They are inside the modem's box.
