What is "band steering"
Jia L. #749
Hi, I was wondering what band steering was and why it is asked to be turned off. Is there any consequences that could come to turning it off and when should you turn it off?

Band steering is the automatic connection manager that sends your device to either 2.4G or 5G ;
in this case you'll see only 1 SSID - (instead of : you have to manually connect to eithter 2.4G or 5G - in this case you'll see 2 SSID's and each has its own name)
It could have some negative impacts on connectivity.
- Band steering enable : 1 SSID : My_Wifi (your device could be connected to either 2.4 or 5G depending on your device capabilities and other factors like distance )
- Band steering disable : 2 SSIDs : My_Wifi_2G and My_Wifi_5G (you choose to connect to which one)
Band Steering is a feature that encourages dual-band capable wireless clients to connect to the less crowded 5GHz network, and leave the 2.4GHz network available for those clients who support 2.4GHz only; thus, Wi-Fi performance can be improved for all clients.
If you look at the threads posted here, band steering doesn't seem to be work that well on the Hitron, some devices are being steered/forced to connect on 5Ghz and the signal may be too weak.
I disabled it BUT I kept the SSID the same, so it's up to the device/client connecting to choose 2.4 or 5Ghz depending on signal strength.

this feature is not ready. Use different SSID instead.
