Why can't I add a second credit card?

I am getting an error that is preventing me from adding a second credit card as payment option.
When I fill out my credit card information and try to submit it, I get the error that follows :
You have reached the maximum number of credit cards allowed on an account.
However, I have only one credit card.
I also tried to remove it so that I could add a second one. But this couldn't possibly work because my account would have no payment method.
Does anyone has an idea of why the system is presenting such behaviour?
