Hi all, I made a thread about two weeks ago but no updates.
My phone is an iPhone 6, running iOS 12.1. and Fizz 34.1
The phone is American, but fully unlocked, considering I used it with Public Mobile for a while, I also tested Telus and Rogers.
I tried getting help from Fizz themselves but they seem to say that they don't hold a list of blacklisted phones and such.
I know my phone is not blacklisted and IS unlocked, what could that mean ?
It just tells me "No Service" then this in the settings, despite fully working for a couple of seconds every single time.

I recommend you do a full factory default, as well upgrade to latest firmware before doing that.39

It sounds to me that your phone is not unlocked. Can you verify it’s unlocked by using a friends sim card from another provider other then the one you recently had?40
-
And you have network with the other providers ? Able to make calls ?37

have you checked the imei on https://www.devicecheck.ca ?39

I second YUN H. advice. Do a factory reset and try again39

I received three answers quickly so I'll respond to all three at once :
Yun H. : The phone is entirely wiped. I did a factory restore an hour ago, and up to date.
Bruce L. : Like I have mentioned in my post, it was originally from America, on T-Mobile. I had it unlocked and had been using it on Public Mobile (basically Telus) without any problems for months. With Fizz, I had to update my phone, which is why I restored it earlier to factory and wiped it as well as updating it.
MoYe B. : I have signal with any other carriers. I tried Public Mobile, Telus and Rogers. I even personally used Public Mobile for months with LTE, no problems at all. I went on the website you listed and it says "Your device HAS NOT been reported lost or stolen and is not currently on the national blacklist."
And to add to all of this, look at the picture that I have posted with this message. I reset my network settings and restarted my phone and now it DOES work, except that I cannot see my signal bars, it basically shows I have none, but I watched an entire video in 1080p on data. Is there a reason why I cannot access my APN settings ?39 -
Wow, after working for 10 minutes, it is now back to "No Service", and "Phone not allowed".
I don't understand how it would be my phone, since it's up to date everywhere and it did work for 10 minutes, I even watched an HD video on data like I said.
That is so frustrating and strange.39 -
I guess it's possible you have a defective SIM.39

The SIM that I have works in another iPhone that I have, I tested it earlier, it works flawlessly.
What frustrates me so much is that I just restored my phone again. Through the ENTIRE setup, I have almost full bars of signal, then right after the setup, it disappeared and went straight back to "No Service".
It LITERALLY WORKS, except that somehow, somewhere at Fizz I presume, there is a problem with my specific phone because it DOES work, except only for a handful of minutes before the problem starts again..
During this handful of minutes, I can call, text, browse internet with data PERFECTLY, then after it just goes back to the same problem. That's why it is so frustrating.38 -
It's even updated to Fizz 35.0, it SHOULD work more than 10 minutes. Because if it works for even 10 minutes, it means that my phone isn't really the problem.38

In that case I suggest you contact fizz on Facebook messenger with this link: https://m.me/fizzca34

That's a tough one. The fact it can work for a while does not actually rule out a problem with your phone, as network tech is adaptive and intelligent these days so it could be giving you a trial run and then booting you after noticing a sufficient amount of "bad" behaviour by your phone. But the fact that other networks did not do the same thing combined with being an iPhone (presumably not jailbroken) suggests that isn't the problem either, to me. You don't happen to have a friend who is on Videotron and would be willing to let you put his sim in your phone for a while to isolated the problem down to Fizz specifically, do you? Perhaps also putting your Fizz sim in his phone (doesn't matter what kind of phone he has, as long as the sim fits) would be a good idea as well. I suspect it is going to boil down to getting support directly from Fizz to resolve the issue in this case, but you can try to speed up the troubleshooting process for them by trying some more things by yourself first to try and isolate the issue.40

Here's what I figured out. My phone, being originally a T-Mobile phone, doesn't seem to play well with Fizz AND Vidéotron (Same bands). I just tested it with Telus and Rogers. Works flawlessly.
But the second that I put a Vidéotron SIM in it, it goes straight to "No Service" (Phone not allowed).
What I ended up doing is this : I went into my settings, disabled LTE, and enabled 3G (Voice & Data). Then, went to "Carrier Selection", I had FIVE different ones (2x Fizz and 3x Fizz EXT).
I selected "Fizz EXT" one by one, and the last one froze for a second and went straight to full signal.
So in conclusion, it DOES work, except that I am limited to 3G. The reason (I'm assuming), is that Vidéotron's LTE bands aren't compatible with my SPECIFIC model (MG5D2LL/A), because it's an American phone that seems to be mostly working on CDMA networks.
Even though it IS unlocked, Vidéotron seems to have different bands that doesn't work too well with my specific modem chip in my phone. That's why it works flawlessly on ANY OTHER carrier, but with Fizz or Vidéotron, it doesn't work well.
So right now I am stuck with only 3G speeds, but hey, it's definitely something.
It mostly sucks because I had "my perfect setup" on a jailbroken iOS 9.2 with everything personalized the way I loved and obviously lost it when I updated. If I had known what I now know but earlier, I would have it working flawlessly on iOS 9.2 jailbroken but I learned so there's that.
Thank you for your help.33
