The sound on about half my call has been garbage for about a year

As in "I hear garbage random noise and need to hangup and call again".

What is the best way to troubleshoot this?

Can this be a phone issue? A provider issue? A sim card issue?

did you check the signal level?

cN you try to turn off the phone for a minute?

did you try the sim in a different phone ?

can you try to deactivate the volte?
