You don't need to buy a travel add-on to receive text messages.

You are merely checking for the availability of travel addons for your destination country to determine that you get service in that country at all.

If Fizz don't offer any addons for your destination country, your Fizz phone will most likely not register on any networks in that country. No registration, no receiving text messages.

Check if there are any travel addons for the country(ies) that you are visiting. If there are, your Fizz phone will register with a network in that country and you will be able to receive text messages (and thus 2FA codes) free of charge.

Do you need to buy a travel add-on to receive text messages? I thought travel add-on is only needed if you want send text messages (or make calls / use data) outside your coverage area.

According to the ABCs of Fizz mobile service,

Incoming texts are always free, whether you’re within your coverage area or not, and whether you opted for unlimited texts or not.

Sending a text message doesn't use mobile data, but your plan must include unlimited text messaging. If not, buy a Text Add-on or add funds to your Fizz wallet to pay per use. Know that any text message you receive, however, is free. If you send or receive a multimedia message (MMS), like a picture via text, that will require data.
