I don't really have a favorite but pretty much all ghibli films are good. As for tv shows I just started watching gate it's not to bad a little different from your average anime. I also liked hellsing and black lagoon.

I don't really watch anime regularly but I've seen the ghibli movies, Death Note and I really like Demon Slayer. I prefer watching with dubs so I can focus on all the action going on on screen.

If you are into DnD, Record of Lodoss War is fantastic, and it's OVA series is absolutely great. The story is a simple, vanilla, fantasy hero's journey. But if not anything else the art style (beautifully hand drawn animation) and music elevate the entire experience to a masterpeice. Highly recommend it.
It is quite 'old' tho (IIRC, late 1980's early 90's)
Edit: also, IMO the best way to watch is with subtitles
