Upgrading to 1 gig internet.
Thanks in advance for your help. I didn't want to wait an hour to get a response through chat and thought I'd ask my question here.
I'm looking to upgrade to the 1 gig speed, I currently am on 500mbs plan.
1.Will my modem be able to handle double the speed?
- How long after changing the plan online will the new speed take effect?

Ok thanks. What got me thinking was the fact that when I tried to upgrade, I saw a message that my plan will take effect 3 weeks from the time I upgrade. Are you certain of your information? It's important because the connection is used to teach online.

Great, now I'm more confused.
2 completely different responses:
active you 1 giga and and reboot the modem. (Disconnect and reconnect)
Starting with your next billing cycle.
1 response is the effect is immediate (Disconnect and reconnect).
The other is Starting with your next billing cycle.

Just finished chatting with fizz. The change in speed will not take effect immediately as someone stated but after the next billing cycle, in my case in more than 3 weeks. Glad I didn't listen and took my time without upgrading.

1 - Your modem will be handle double the speed, no problems here
2 - You can change your plan at any time from your account on Fizz.ca. The changes will take effect at the start of your next payment cycle. A 72-hour freeze period before the end of your billing cycle prevents any plan changes. For Internet and TV, no changes are possible. You may need to upgrade your network card to fully benefit from a 1 Gigabit (1 Gbps) Internet plan if your current card doesn't support gigabit speeds, as older cards can't reach such bandwidth. To check this, make sure your network card supports "Gigabit Ethernet" or "1000 Mbps" speed.

100Mbps cards probably not, but between 100 and 1Gbps yes
Mine supports until 867 Mbps, that's Wi-Fi card!

Hi Trapa, If I may, I’d recommend sticking with the 500 MB plan. I don’t think you’ll notice a significant difference by going higher, especially if your usage is mostly over Wi‑Fi based.1
