I think the reason is the temperature difference between summer and winter. But I think all cities in Canada also have this problem, so why only Montreal is famous for this problem?

I asked chat gpt and it said that the water might leak deep into the road, then when it's cold, it damages the road. so when they fix the road, they have to dig deep into the ground to see where the problem is, not just can fix on the surface

One of the issue with Montreal is that the underground infrastructure (metro, water pipes, drains, telecommunication network, electricity, underground parking space) is so dense that every repair takes a very long time to complete.

Another factor is that Montreal is on an island, so there's a hard limit on where you can re-route traffic during construction work.

Agreed, the Island is small compared to the population.

Yes, population density is certainly what makes the situation so painful.

I go back and forth between Montreal and my hometown, 10 hours away. Montreal’s full of construction—sometimes it feels like the city didn’t think things through. My hometown’s adding bike lanes too, but honestly, they seem unsafe—it feels like another bad call from the city, lol.

yeah I love biking, but I think spending so much time and money just to construct a bike lane is not reasonable

we can just simply draw the lines on the road to tell that is bike lane, I think it is more flexible

yeah, on an island and has a mountain in the middle, it's even harder to reroute the road

Don't understand why the road is full of pits, but they are still building flower beds.
