Though I appreciate the current improvements listed in the email received the other day, I believe WI-FI calling would be the best improvement needed next. I know this topic has come up a lot over the years lately. I also posted this on Reddit, as I think my point 3 below is a valid point.

There are a few reasons why Wi-Fi calling would be good for us as the customers and also for Fizz.

1. Connectivity would improve in areas that is low signal and where Wi-Fi is available.

2. Connectivity to native calls and texts outside of Canada (and USA) on Wi-Fi.

3. Benefit for Fizz; calls and text would be routed via Wi-Fi and not cellular networks. This would reduce the reliance on partner networks as well as reduce bandwidth on their own network. This would translate into a potential $$ savings especially on partner networks.
I'm not sure what the percentage would be but let's say 25% of subscribers are in a decent wifi area... If Wi-Fi calling was a thing this would reduce the tower calling and texting bandwidth by up to 25% (taking into consideration that not every phone can be provisioned or wifi calling may be switched off)
Perhaps the % may be higher than 25%. That is considerable.

I've experienced Wi-Fi calling with Rogers and Freedom and I must say it works pretty good.

Is perhaps the fact that Fizz is a low tier carrier stopping them to offer this; because public mobile, lucky, chatr etc dont have Wi-Fi calling?

If Freedom (and I'm assuming Videotron) has Wi-Fi calling why would it be such a thing "oh it's in the works" for a few years already. It can't be that hard to provision for that on the same networks. What are the Fizz gods doing all day haha. But what do I know. I don't know the ins and outs.

I think, that's probably exactly it. Business strategy. People who know what WiFi calling is and explicitly want to use it, are full-service clients and should therefore pay a little more on the premium brands.

You also have to consider that every "addon" feature over the most simplest call/text/data service requires extra operational costs and customer support which at the long end makes price plans more expensive.

I know a few who do not subscribe to Fizz mobile because there is no Wi-Fi calling option!

So do I. In fact, if I hadn't gone through the motions of completely separating my main phone number from any active Canada mobile phone plan, I wouldn't be with Fizz today either, and for that exact reason.

The point is though, none of these people can go to any of Fizz' direct competitors, i.e. the other flanker brands. Since none of them support WiFi calling either. And if anyone goes to Freedom instead of Fizz, so that they can have Wifi calling support, great, it actually creates more revenue for the network. So, why stop them?

I agree WiFi calling is more important than all the other "improvements" mentioned in the email. Since their parent carrier (whose network Fizz uses) has supported it for years, I come to the conclusion that not supporting it might be deliberate, as others have noted above.

How many subscribers does this apply to?

I have low signal at home but high enough that everything works.
