RCS not functionning on new phone, was working previously with same sim

Hi Folks,
I have been on Fizz for almost five years now and I need your help with a problem I cannot solve by myself.
PROBLEM: RCS Chat will not activated on Pixel 9 Pro XL.
SUMMARY: After moving from an iPhone 15 to a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. I tried activating RCS and the message I get after I enter my phone number for verification and I get the message: Not supported.
CONTEXT and STORY DETAILS:
- I deactivated all my services on my iPhone and popped out my physical SIM card.
I inserted it in my newly unboxed Google Pixel 9 Pro XL received from Google.
I did the setup and everything was going extremely well.I proceeded to upgrading to Android 15 and also do all the updates
- I then made sure nothing was left to be done, I confirmed my data plan was working by surfing the internet on my phone (I was using WIFI when upgrading the OS and installing the apps), I also installed some apps I wanted specifically on Android. Note I did not import anything from my iPhone. I wanted this to be a fresh install. Still all was going fine.
- I went into Messages, got the message "We are setting up RCS... blah blah blah... RCS is blah blah blah" to which I clicked OK. I went into Messages parameters, RCS Chat - I entered my cell phone number and waited. I came back about 10 minutes later and the message "Not Supported" was the status.
To note - my son has a Pixel 8 and my daughter has a Pixel 7 on Fizz and they both use RCS no problem. My daughter's Pixel 7 used to be mine and I used RCS on Fizz' network without a hitch.
- I tried deactivating for 24h and reactivating. I got the Not Supported message right away.
I closed the Messages app. I went into Settings --> Apps --> Messages --> Storage and Cache and Deleted cache and storage space. Went back in the Messages app. Saw the prompt again saying welcome - it was trying once again to set me up on the network. Again after a short moment of providing my number for verification. I got the message Not Supported.
I then resorted to reinitialize my phone. Completely wipe it out. I set it up again. Did just the updates this time as Android 15 was already on the device. I opened Messages (once all updates were done). I tried configuring it like above and got the same not supported message.
I check the APN settings (i know I was able to surf the internet but I wanted to be sure). They were ok.
I decided to change my SIM card. I went to fizz.ca in the User Portal and requested a SIM Card change which I opted for an eSIM. Which I installed on my phone. It took the 30 minutes required for the switch over. I did a voice call, I surfed the internet. Everything was working. Did as above. Went into Messages. Setup message as usual. Enter phone number for verification. "Not supported"
I called Google Pixel support, they went over the general configs of the phone. I explained the steps I had done above and they told me this was something the Carrier had to troubleshoot has the hardware was all properly configured.
I opened a support chat with Fizz, I send a few screenshots of the configurations and message I was getting. I just got told it's a known issue. (though my other phones on my account can use RCS on Fizz). I asked for a ticket number - I was told there isn't one. I don't get that. I have 6 phone lines on Fizz - (my entire family) and I don't get that it doesn't work just for me.
I tried using RCS with my phone with a competitor (Public Mobile) and RCS did function right away.
I am at a loss at this point.

Hi @jdbertrand
a @whizz reported that some user have this kind of problem, and they are checking the causes.
Did you contact the support https://fizz.ca/en/support1 -
There are a lot of posts here on forum of similar issues, I'm not sure if it's a carrier issue or not, but the amount of users complaining RCS stopped working could suggest that.
From what I read, you should try to remove your number from Google, then relist it (Verify) through the app. That worked for some people.1 -
Not sure if it's a carrier issue or not but many people of the world have problem too.

This is entirely speculative but it seems to affect people
- whose carrier does not provide their own RCS integration and is entirely relying on Google Jibe
- uses certain versions of the Google Messages app that are susceptible to this issue
- and needs to do a new RCS activation for any reason (switched phone/carrier or factory defaulted their entire phone or Google Messages app)
Not sure if an existing working registration will also expire at some point and people will then start to experience the issue if they are running an affected version of Google Messages at the time.

@jdbertrand This is not a carrier issue. Just check your Google Messages versions on the two phones, and install the same version of the old phone should fix your issue.

Same problem here (new phone, no RCS). I tried the same steps (and more). No success. The @jdbertrand's last point is:
- “I tried using RCS with my phone with a competitor (Public Mobile) and RCS did function right away.”
Which is very concerning, Fizz.

Not just Fizz search on the web? Many websites talk of this.

I'd love to know if anyone has other tips I can try or check. Please !I searched online and I am not seeing general outages and Google Pixel Support also tells me their services are up and running and it can be a question of how the carrier implemented RCS.

They are currently developing for iPhones for RCS. I wonder if these developments would impact the RCS service for Android phones.

I just solved it. I thought it was a longshot. I tried it anyways. Someone proposed this in a Google Forum for their Samsung S24.
I went on airplane mode
I cleared storage
I disabled airplane mode
I opened Messages
For the message welcoming me to Messages and RCS being setup
I went into RCS Chat in the settings.
And miracle.... It worked. It blo•dy worked!Hope this can help others.

I got mine to work last night as well on Pixel 9. I did a few more things, however, now I wonder if it was all really necessary, maybe they just fixed something yesterday.
I can confirm though no unlimited text plan is required and no money is taken out of the wallet for either the registration or messages sent thereafter. In fact, I saw a an incoming text from Google during registration with a standard 2FA code confirmation for "Messages". That appears to be how they are verifying your number.0 -
Thanks for this confirmation, I'll know what to do for the RCS when I change my phone.

Try to reset your new phone and reinstall google Messages then.

I tried this solution many times before with no success, but this time it worked (magical but so annoying).

Looks more and more like someone (Fizz? Google?) fixed something yesterday.

Mine fixed itself after 3 weeks of frustration
I'm on the latest beta version of Google messages
The last 7 days I left RCS turned off
Today I put the phone on airplane mode
Cleared cache+ storage for Messages & Carrier services
Turned off airplane mode
RCS instantly connected when I triedThat said
I don't know exactly what fixed it:
-Me leaving it off for 7 days before clearing and retry
-A Google update fix
-A fizz update fix0 -

RCS started working again on my Pixel 6 Pro. I didn't have to do anything. It stopped working about a week ago. I initially tried all of the recommended steps but nothing worked. I just left the phone on the charger last night and the RCS status was stuck trying to verify my number. This morning when I woke up, RCS was verified! Big thanks to Fizz for getting this sorted.
