Hi @coolbeans
It seems that you force the phone to use the Rogers network for some reason, you need to leave the network operator selector in automatic, since not all the company are working in certain zone, this depends on the agreements.0 -
I've been seeing it on and off, sometimes it works, in fact, I am posting this from the Rogers network in Toronto right now, sometimes 2G connection only, sometimes no data access.
Bottom line is, Fizz EXT networks are for providing service to Fizz subscribers temporarily while travelling in regions where Vidéotron does not provide its own network coverage. Usage of the EXT networks by subscribers is obviously more costly than using Vidéotron's own network infrastructure which is why they only let people subscribe that reside in their own coverage areas (aka subscription area).
The GTA has comprehensive region-wide coverage by the Vidéotron-owned Freedom network, therefore, access to the EXT networks is not required in the GTA for Fizz customers to receive service. It was/is thus only a question of time until they start to block the use of EXT networks in areas where they have full coverage of their own. Especially, since they have inherited the technical infrastructure to implement this from when they acquired the Freedom network who has been blocking the use of EXT networks for their subscribers in the GTA for years.

Yea I agree but even in Toronto there are some places especially in some buildings where Freedom network is really struggling and I will have to switch to the EXT network. It’s only for temporary use. The ability to switch to EXT networks when needed is one of the reasons I choose Fizz. I hope this does not go away0 -

Sure, there are, but that is the case with any network. Coverage can never be 100%. I am aware of at least a couple of buildings where Rogers is unusable but Freedom, and thus Fizz, works just fine. I agree that having an option to switch to EXT networks when necessary is wonderful. All I am saying is that EXT network usage in areas where Fizz has full coverage is not part of the service agreement we all have with Fizz. Thus, you can't expect or rely on this to work.

my pixel phone only shows fizz ext normally so without actually opening up phone diagnostics it's not possible to see which network it is using for fizz ext. all i can say is that it is automatically switching to fizz ext for me in toronto/gta when its set to automatic network

In my cellar parking there will be only Rogers network, I feel lucky that I will always get connected to fizz ext in my cellar. None of the other 2 big players will have signal and they can’t connect to rogers.
Though it is slow its is good to start my gps, attend any calls, playing songs in YouTube.
Don’t expect much speed from a roaming network. Maybe Rogers having network issue at your place.0 -

That's perfectly alright and expected as long as at least one of EXT networks is still accessible in your area. As long as the network selection on your phone is set to automatic, the phone should flip back to Fizz after some time.
