Not quite sure how this works

Do both the receiver and sender need to be paying for data? I know the receiver does, but I'm not sure about the sender. I have free data (fresh not rolled over) but it won't let me gift it to someone who is paying for it. So I'm assuming that's the reason, but I'm not sure.

According to What is data gifting and how does it work? ,

Buying an Add-on or applying a perk or an upgrade allow you to add extra data to your plan, but that won’t give you the ability to gift or receive data. To gift or receive data, your plan must include data from the get-go.

Yeah, I think you're right. I haven't seen the option to gift perks/data that Fizz has given me. I can only gift the fresh data that's from my plan.

Both need data plans to send and receive.

You can only send data from what youre alloted as part of the monthly plan.

And the receiver needs a data plan to receive data.

    Hope this helps.

I've learned that you need to have data in your plan to receive data. You can't have 3 lines with 0 data and another line with 100 GB and hope to just donate data to that one line. The other 3 lines must have at minimum 1 GB of data to receive more data.

Another thing i learned is that you may have Canada + US data and the other lines may have only ontario only data. But when you donate data from C+US line to Ontario line, ontario can't use its data in Canada+US.

It almost works better the other way where you donate Ontario data to Canada+US line. The value of Canada+US data is higher than Ontario data so you're actually devaluing your data by transferring one way vs another.

    Important Information about Data Gifting

    • Rollover data, Perk data, and Gift data received cannot be gifted to others.
    • Only data included in a valid package is eligible for gifting.
    • To receive gifted data, the recipient must have an active data pack of at least 1GB. Without this, they are not eligible to receive data.
