Why are there multiple messages on the VoLTE test number? Does this mean Fizz will support some 3G?

In my previous post, I called the VoLTE test number #8378 on a OnePlus Nord N200, which is known to be EOL, and was greeted with the following voice message, spoken by two different voice actresses, one for each respective language:

You will first hear this message in English. Un message en francais suivra. Good news! You've just made a successful Voice Over LTE call. This means your device and SIM card are Voice Over LTE-compatible, and your service will continue even after 3G networks in Canada begin shutting down on July 31st, 2025. Bonne nouvelle!

When I make the call using the Nord N200, the message plays on a loop. I can see in the Phone Information screen obtained by entering *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer that my voice and data network are downgraded to UMTS and I am not IMS registered. Ending the call returns my phone to LTE, and I am still not IMS registered.

On a Google Pixel 8, which is a supported phone on Fizz, when I call the VoLTE test number, I am greeted with a voice message spoken only in English by a voice actress with a Quebecoise accent:

You have just made a successful VoLTE call. This means your device and SIM card are compatible with the VoLTE and your service won't be impacted by the withdrawal of the 3G network starting July 31st, 2025.

On the Pixel 8, this message plays once. I can see in the Phone Information screen that my voice and data network remain on LTE and I am IMS registered.

Does this mean that Fizz will continue supporting 3G for certain devices after the 3G shutdown?

    Hi @cola416
The 3G is out of the control from the Fizz side, Fizz is a virtual operator, therefore, it doesn't have control on this.
If when you make a call the signal stay in LTE this means that the call is using VoLTE and you are set, when it switched to UMTS this means that you are switched in 3G, very strange

I'm hearing the 2nd message (English only) from a compatible iPhone SE.
The behaviour from your Nord N200 is really odd. But, if push comes to shove, I would trust the information obtained from your phone, the fallback on 3G and the IMS registration status from the 4636 menu, over the voice response you received from the #8378 number.
When I call #8378 from an incompatible phone, I just get an "unknown number" response.

There is one reason why you may be getting two different messages from #8378. Are you by any chance in the Ottawa/Gatineau region? If so, one phone may be registered on the Freedom network, the other on the Vidéotron network. Each playing out different messages. But I haven't tested it, just a wild guess.
