Fizz contributing to e-waste problem by refusing to certify existing VOLTE-enabled phones

I do not wish to contribute to the worldwide e-waste nightmare by dumping a phone that works perfectly just because the phone company wants people to buy all new phones. I've been with Fizz for five years but if I get kicked off the network because I don't want to/can't afford to be forced to buy a new phone, I will move on to another service provider.

Hi, no idea if they will offer it before the end but the more people who ask for it the more the chances increase.

You are right, full functional phones becoming obsolete on Fizz's network since they will not able to use the VoLTE, potentially contributing to e-waste. While some users have reported success in enabling VoLTE on non-certified devices through technical workarounds, these methods are not officially supported and may not be feasible for all users, moreover, I am not suggesting to do it, but only to let you know.
It's important to note that other carriers may have different certification processes, and your device might be compatible with their VoLTE services, this can push Fizz decision to certify devices since it will loose some customers. Continued feedback from customers like you is crucial in encouraging more inclusive policies that consider both technological capabilities and environmental impacts.

Just posted this in the hopes it might resolve the issue for some.

I will move on to another service provider
I hope you find one, I really do.
However, I've googled around a little bit and found VoLTE whitelists for two out of the big three Canadian providers that also didn't have OnePlus phones on it. And statements in other forums for the third that OnePlus doesn't work out-of-the-box on their network either for VoLTE. Not unless you start tweaking it with shady apps and hidden menus.

I am by no means an expert on VoLTE, but it would seem that getting a phone “certified” on a network also requires the phone manufacturer to update their profiles. See the second bullet below.
I don’t know if this manufacturer update is hardware based and not capable of being changed or can be changed with a firmware or OS download update,
Perhaps, check with the OnePlus support site to see if they have, or plan to, update your phone for Fizz?
“Requirements
- Phone service provider has to enable the voice service on its LTE cellular network. Called "VoLTE profiles", it contains the necessary information, for each service provider, to enable VoLTE on the customer's equipment.
- Device manufacturers have to update their devices, for all providers all over the world, with each operator's profile.
- If the service provider of a mobile is present within the device, the operating system will automatically connect and enable Voice over LTE.”

This is just for discussion and try to justify (if possible with this supposition the Fizz decision) since I don't know the details, but VoLTE simply means Voice over LTE, which doesn't provide any further information. The underlying protocol is based on SIP, connecting to the IMS. In this protocol, multiple factors can make support and validation more challenging, such as:
- The ability to use the correct certificate.
- Proper encryption of authentication and transport information.
- The voice codec used—for example, Fizz might use codec A, while a phone only supports B, C, D, and E (similar to frequency compatibility) which still is a VoLTE phone.
- Manufacturer-provided information to ensure proper provisioning or the correct certificate usage.
- Other technical constraints.
Additionally, a provider (e.g., Provider A) may choose to invest in supporting multiple codecs. For example, they might adopt codec B, which could require more bandwidth or come with licensing fees.

The fact that there are hacks around that seem to make it work on "some" phones on "some" networks (and I don't know about Fizz specifically) seems to indicate that hurdles are not so much on the technical side. But at the end, we don't the details, you're right.

Indeed.
we don’t know the details, so it a bit unfair to blame Fizz entirely for failing to “certify” a particular phone when it may be the manufacturer that is to blame.1 -
We still have a Iphone 6s plus with other providers, volte works fine. I hesitate to move to move the line over to Fizz for this reason.

iPhone 7 Plus is ok but 6 not sure, never look in the list.
Ask to friends with fizz if you have to test SIM card with your phone and call #8378.
