if you have android, on your phone you can set data limits so that it stops using data after the limit is reached. if you know the amount you have in your plan, you can set it up to have 5Gb data left

On Android you can go under settings - connections - data usage - allowed networks for apps and configure for each whether they can use WiFi, Mobile data, or both
Just restrict the apps that you don't need on modile to WiFi only.
