Does fizz allow text via RCS using wifi when abroad for free?

    I don't think so because your outside the coverage zone! Some people use texting apps and get a temporarily number from that area code!

    You can try using Textme apk via Wi-Fi with a virtual number.

    It should work as Fizz supports RCS.

    To use RCS, you need to have: 

    • A mobile plan including text messaging and access to mobile data or Wi-Fi

    Adding onto what BradDoell said:

    Don't let the "Google Messages may not be available in all countries or regions" scare you.

    RCS is a standard for carriers to implement and this is just a catch-all for carriers that don't support RCS.

    It doesn't apply to us as Fizz supports RCS.

    Some recommendations:

    Be sure to test whether your RCS text recipients are able eligible to receive them. If for whatever reason they aren't able to connect to RCS it will be downgraded to SMS/MMS and you won't be able to send it without wallet funds/add-ons.

    Google Messages requires a constant connection to send and receive messages in real-time. To turn on RCS chats, on some devices you may be prompted to exclude Google Messages from battery optimization

    RCS requires a constant connection to data, so if you want to be up to date on texts you will have to get a data add on or a local data sim.

    If you choose to go the Wi-Fi route, a traditional messaging app would do just as well. Apps like Messenger, etc.
