I would like to buy a used vehicle too but I heard too many horror stories about repairing costs.
I think I will stick with buying or leasing a new car. I am currently looking at the Mazda CX-30 as a compact crossover.
Whatever car you end up choosing, try to find one certified by a dealer.

+1 On "recent" (<10yrs) Mazdas.
They don't rust as fast as before and knock on wood... almost nothing needed repairs on mine for now.
Finding something compact size might be difficult in that SUV, truck, tanks and "bigger than yours... bro" crazy market.

I agree with you... Mazda does the only compact cars, both hatchback and suv, that I currently like in the canadian market! Happy to hear that they don't rust that easily anymore! Antirust treatment is a must anyway in QC and ON...
