Receiving group MMS text messages separately from certain people

Hi all,

Having a very frustrating time with my Pixel 4a that I bought from Fizz and I am not entirely sure what the solution is. I'm in an MMS group chat via Google Messages with 3 other friends. Two of them have iPhones, one has a Samsung. I can send messages in this group chat and everyone else receives them, but when I receive a message, messages from the two iPhones are received as individual conversations, while the Samsung messages are successfully displaying in the group chat.

I've tried the usual troubleshooting techniques (restarting phone, updating apps [using latest beta of Google Messages], etc). I've also checked the settings on the apps to ensure group chats are enabled and that MMS grouping is allowed. Still nothing. I even switched to using Signal as my primary SMS/MMS text app thinking maybe it was a problem with Google Messages. Same result - I receive texts from the iPhone users separately but the Samsung one works. I even checked to make sure my friends' iPhones had the correct MMS settings.

Does anybody have any idea what's going on here? It's fairly frustrating to have to piece together what the order of the group chat is in because messages are received separately.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi

I think the key here is "Search for more differences seen when texting between iOS and Android, the two are not completely compatible when communicating with each other" as mentioned above.

Do you have another phone to try out these chats?

If the chats are working well for your friend on Samsung, perhaps you can try swapping SIM cards to perform some tests. Maybe even compare your phone settings.

Unfortunately this one might be chalked up to be an Android/iOS compatibility issue. As you know, there are many versions of Android.

    Hi Evan,

first remove your SIM card with caution, then reinsert it and to finish, reboot (power cycle) your device by holding down the device’s start button for 10 seconds.

After you reboot, your applications will reload. Your phone will then re-authenticate to the Fizz mobile network. This will allow your device to recover its authorization to access the network.

You can also tested the troubleshooting mentioned in the following FAQ:

    https://fizz.ca/en/faq/i-cant-send-or-receive-multimedia-text-messages-why

    https://fizz.ca/en/faq/what-are-fizz-network-settings-apn

And if the problem still persists, I suggest you to contact Fizz team customer service by opening this link: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/resolving-issues and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, then click on it to start your chat session with the customer service.

If the chat bubble still does not appear at the bottom of the page, on the right, after a few seconds, the number of pending sessions is higher than the service’s processing capacity. At that time, you can leave a message on the other proposed communication channels:

-By private message on Facebook/Messenger: https://facebook.com/fizzca.

-By private message on Twitter : https://mobile.twitter.com/fizz_ca

    -Whatsapp : (438) 393-5814

Thats was « normal » in a conversation with Android and iPhone user. It’s super annoying but nothing can be done. Only solution, use WhatsApp or another messaging app.

Tried both the APN and with another app (Pulse). Still nothing. Seems like a Fizz network issue at this point. Not sure there is much more I can do

As mentioned above, you should contact Fizz’s support team directly to inquire about that issue, they will be able to do some further investigation to possibly correct this situation. You can do it by opening the following link: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/status-services and simply scroll down until you see the green bubble, than click on it to start your chat session with the customer service.

  • Hello @Evan C., I suggest:

    • try another messaging app such as QKMS or similar alternative texting app, it doesn't have to be an encrypted app like Signal
    • ask the iphone users how they have their messaging app set up and if they are using the OEM texting app or another app
    • search for more differences seen when texting between ios and Android, the two are not completely compatible when communicating with each other

I've tried Pulse and Signal. No luck. And I've already verified with my iPhone friends that their settings are correct. Myh other Android friend has no problems receiving the texts from them in the group chat. It's only me.

That's the way iMessage works, it sucks, but that's how it is.
