I'm new here and I want to know what is the advantage of getting badges. Does it give you more points, perks etc?

The only advantage is that you get points. The points you get vary from badge to badge.
For instance, you can see the points value for the forum badges under 'my goals'.
It's a way for Fizz to encourage participation.7 -
You get points on eavh badges, and mostly worth on early level!
