What's with the constant modem failure ?

Any veteran on here who could tell me if this is a regular thing with fizz ? Idk if I missed the part in the fine prints where it says that this coda-4680 is complete bunk but... now that I've looked at the ssh logs and the posts online, I'm kinda starting to sweat over here.
I've only been a customer for less than a month and already had to reset this thing 5 times due to internet dying on me. Mostly just reading blogs, shopping or chatting on teams...
It's not like idk what I'm doing with that kind of hardware and now I see that we cannot even choose to use our own modem!! I should've looked this up earlier I guess.
I am not trying to reel in anyone here but I am at the point where I either go all docsis cl on the thing or just change isp. Some people do have their own gear you know? Sux that I know I could just work from home in peace without having to come on here instead of most likely not get anything more than a "did you try rebooting your... " heh.
That is IF I could just get an inch of freedom about anything
Please someone prove me wrong and tell me something that will actually make me change my mind about bouncing.
(Yes, the coax signal is fine. I also checked btw)

Hi, I been with fizz for 3 month. Videotron 5 years before teksavvy 4 year, bell 6 years, etc. I ALLWAYS use my router. each times I did not had to remap my all my devices. Whit fizz I I tested their modem-router, it is ok but not much, I prefer to use my own router, an asus, better speed, range and fonctions. The only times I got a real problem with fizz router is when I did not put it in bridge mode to use my router. Fizz modem-router is ok but not much.11

Hi Mathieu
Sorry you are having internet issues.
Does the problem occur only with WIFI or even when you connect directly to modem via Ethernet cable?
When the problem happens again, please try unplugging the Fizz modem from the electrical outlet for 1 minute before retrying.
Fizz uses the same cable internet network as Videotron which is very reliable. Knowing that, I must admit the modem is not flawless. You can opt at any time to use your own WIFI router with the Fizz modem:
https://fizz.ca/en/faq/how-can-i-use-my-own-wi-fi-router-fizz
If the problem continues, you can try factory reset of the modem by pressing and holding down the small button behind the modem for 10+ seconds with a sharp object like paper clip.
If there is no improvement, you can contact customer support by chat at any time 24/7:
1- Connect to your Fizz account by clicking « Login » in the top right corner at fizz.ca
2- Any ad blockers in your browser should be disabled.
3- Open a Fizz help page like this one: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/i-connected-my-device-using-network-cable-my-internet-connection-slow-how-do-i-fix-it
4- The green chat bubble should appear after a few seconds in the bottom right corner.10 -
Hello Mathieu,
Had the same kind of issues since last May approx (april-may 2020). The modem is randomly capped at download speeds of ~0.1 Mbps every day or so and upload speed is fine. Sometime it's twice a day at morning on woke up and evening. Most of the time the internet isn't used and that's when I try to use it that I face the issue. Before May, everything was working FLAWLESSLY
I'm on the 30/10 package. 2 Videotron technicians came to look at the problem. Both told the coax signal is stronger than supposed from outside to my appartment so they had to install a signal filter/reducer before the coax gets into my modem. I also went and saw the cabling from my appartment to the street. The electrical box and building wiring are new. I was given a new Fizz Modem by the second technician and a factory reset was made based on Fizz recommendation. They also installed something in it remotely to look at the issue I guess. Didn't change a thing.
Fastest way to solve the issue I found was to reboot it with the phone app. Annoying but faster than trying to get on chat with Fizz each time to get the service person to tell me to reboot it.
I'm in the Anjou Sector. is it related to outside temperature or a defective cable in the network to my house? maybe. I've pass many hours trying to get my head around this issue and tested many things but nothing helped12 -
@Francis, well isn't that a treat? Seems to me that I am left with this same ultimatum then. I hope you get some kind of compensation for this. Going through all that trouble and still have to stick to this "not without it's flaws" kinda situation... aka modem, speaks volume to me. I've never even used the coda-4680 as a router so, I see I am most likely wasting my time here. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.
FYI, despite being told all over this board that you cannot use your own modem. I'll let you know that it is still possible to do so. Probably a lot less work than going through all this copypasta fest offered on here but I wouldn't count on finding the answer that way if you see what I mean9
