Do I have to cancel my current home internet plan? Or will the technician do it?

You should do it,. when everything is up and running contact the other provider to cancel, usually they will refund you calculating in prorated

Once your Home Internet plan is activated, don’t forget to contact your previous provider to cancel your Internet subscription with them, and avoid paying double.

The usual way is to call and let them know a cancel date. They will usually try to offer you a better price before you cancel, but they will likely be unable to beat Fizz!
