I have no text plan. Since incoming sms are free, I prefer to buy and addon of 200 outgoing texts for 3$ +tx. You always have until end of next cycle to use them.
But if you intend to send less than 60 txt every 60 days, then add money to your wallet and pay 5¢ each.3 -
You can use app to text with lte or wifi like fongo and it's free1

If you manage well your text messages, you're good for the year with only a 3$+tx addon, like that, but you can't send photos, that's the bad part.1
